Card, Gallery, List, and Map Views

What each of the four project views is good at, and which one to be in for shortlisting, reviewing photos, checking logistics, or reordering

The same project, four ways of reading it. The switcher is in the project header, and your choice is remembered per project.

Most people settle on one and never look at the others, which is a shame, because the useful thing about them is that they answer different questions.

Card view

Folders and script locations as cards, each previewing four photos from what is inside it.

This is the view for seeing the shape of a project. How many script locations are still empty, which ones have a final pick, how far off locked you are. The green frames and the folder stars make that readable without opening anything.

Photographs at size, with the metadata out of the way.

This is the view for the conversation about how somewhere looks. When a director is over your shoulder, gallery view is the one to be in, because card view's rates and addresses are noise in that moment.

List view

One row per location, with the address, tags, rate, and drive distance in columns.

This is the view for working. Everything comparable is on screen at once, so it is where shortlisting, reordering, and marking scout picks and final selects actually happen. Notable things it does that the others do not:

  • Drag to reorder options within a script location, or drag a script location into a folder
  • Unfold a folder in place with the chevron, so you can read what is inside without leaving the project root, or use Unfold all to open everything at once. See Organising a Project with Folders
  • Show: All, Scout, Final filters the rows to your shortlist or your locks, and the choice sticks per project
  • Add Location sits on each script location, so filing goes where you meant it to

Map view

Every location with an address, plotted, with distances measured from the project's production office.

This is the view for logistics questions. Whether two script locations can share a day, whether one option is on the wrong side of the city, what is near the unit base. Locations with no address do not appear here at all, which is itself useful information about which records need attention.

Which to be in

If you are choosing, the honest default is list view, because comparing is most of the job and it is the only view that shows the numbers side by side. Switch to gallery when someone is looking at it with you, map when the question is about driving, and cards when you want to know how much is left to do.

Some things do not vary by view: scout picks and final selects can be set from any of them, and folders exist in all four.
