Scout Picks and Final Selects

Mark which options are worth a scout visit and which ones are locked, then filter any view or share down to just those

Every option in a project sits somewhere between "found it on a listing site" and "we are shooting here on the 14th". Two marks carry that through the whole app.

The two marks

  • Scout (the goggles) means this one is worth going to see. It is your shortlist for a scout day: usually three or four options per script location out of the twelve you gathered.
  • Final (the star) means this is the pick. One per script location, in green, so it reads at a glance.

Marks are set per option inside a project, not on the location itself. The same house can be a final select for one production and an unvisited option in another, which is what you want when you reuse a library across jobs.

Filtering by them

The Show control at the top of a project switches between All, Scout, and Final. It applies to every view, so the map, the gallery, the list, and the folder previews all narrow together. Your choice is remembered per project.

The filter also drives what the folder covers preview, which is how a folder can go from twenty photos to the four you actually care about.

Sharing a filtered view

When you share a project you can share it filtered. A director gets the scout list, a producer gets the final selects, and a location manager gets everything. It is the same project, so nothing has to be copied or kept in sync.

The filter is applied when the link is made. Adding an option to the shortlist later means it appears in that shared view too, without a new link.

Where the marks flow

  • Scout days are built from options, and the scout list is the natural place to start.
  • Exports can be limited to scout picks or final selects, which is how a locations list for the production office stops being a hundred rows of maybes. See Exporting Locations.
  • Folder stars fill in as script locations get their final pick, so a folder tells you how much of it is locked.

A workflow that holds up

Gather options with no marks at all. Once a script location has enough, mark the three worth visiting as Scout and build the scout day from those. After the visit, the one that survives gets the star. What is left is a project that answers "where are we shooting" and "what did we reject" at the same time, which is the question that comes up two weeks later when the pick falls through.
